Overview

In this module I have developed new skills and approaches through self-directed work in my chosen specialism, CG Special FX. I have endeavoured to explore the extremes of this specialism through further consolidation and exploration of my personal practice.

I began with the aim of creating my own library of assets to use in Abode After Effects to change, enhance and edit video footage that wouldn’t be possible to recreate on a stop motion set or CGI programme such as Maya. Post processing and editing is something that really intrigues me and is something I genuinely enjoy doing. I’m fascinated by bringing a film or animation together, giving it a final polished touch and adding subtle elements that give it a huge improvement, as well as making sure the pacing and timing of each scene flows naturally.

Later on as part of my live brief I used green screened Stop Motion footage to incorporate into After Effects to key out and enhance the shots. I also looked into animating directly within After Effects which I have found to have much more possibilities that I had originally anticipated. I am going to be conducting in depth research into my area of practice to inform the development of my practical work. This will be documented throughout this online blog to show my individual progress.
